Dispelling the Myths about Discount Toner Cartridges

Many people have different opinions about discount toner cartridges. Some printer owners don't know much about discount cartridges. Others believe they know everything they need to know about laser toner cartridges. After using discount toner cartridges for over fifteen years, I have learned a lot. Now, I'd like to distinguish between fact and fiction when it comes to a discount toner cartridge.

Myth #1 Discount Toner Cartridges are simply cheap cartridges.

Although a discount toner cartridge is cheap to buy, it is not cheap in quality. A discount toner cartridge is manufactured from all new toner parts by a third party company. A reputable discount company uses the same technology as the major printer manufacturers. The toner cartridge is manufactured to the exact specifications for your specific laser printer.

Most companies provide at least a one year warranty and a no nonsense money back guarantee on their discount toner. You can expect to pay about half the cost you'd pay for your new brand name toner cartridge.

Myth #2 A Discount Toner Cartridge will void my printer warranty.

False! In fact, congress passed a law to make it illegal for a manufacturer to force you to buy their supplies. If allowed, this would lead to a monopoly, high prices and lack of competition. The name of law is the “Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act”. It’s guarantees your printer warranty will not be voided.

United States Code Annotated
Title 15 Commerce and Trade
Chapter 50 Consumer Product Warranties
15 Section 2302

“(c) No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection be waived by the commission if:

1) The warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and

2) The Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest.”

Myth #3 A Discount Toner Cartridge will damage my printer.

A toner cartridge can do very little to damage your laser printer. If a toner cartridge leaked, which is very unlikely, it could cause streaking on your printed pages. If that were to happen, simply clean and replace the toner cartridge... by the way. A discount toner cartridge is normally guaranteed for at least one year. If that ever happened, you would get a free replacement cartridge.

I had one time in fifteen years that a discount toner cartridge didn't provide high quality print. I simply called the company. They shipped me a new discount toner cartridge the very next day at their expense. That's why you buy from a reputable company.

Myth #4 Discount Toner Cartridges produce poor quality print.

I confess. At first I was afraid that a discount toner cartridge would not provide me the quality of print I'd become accustomed to. I was wrong. My first discount cartridge provided superior quality printing.

I also confess. I didn't think it would last. Wrong again! Was I surprised when I actually printed more pages from my discount toner cartridge than I had from my original cartridge. I finally learned that the company had a policy to completely fill their discount cartridges. In contrast, the original printer manufacturer did not completely fill the cartridge with toner. That's why I got more pages of print.

In fairness to the major printer companies, I want to clarify one thing. I used OEM toner cartridges for several years. I always printed the number of pages that the manufacturer advertised. There was no deception in their advertising. Some simply did not fill their toner cartridges to capacity.

Myth #5 All Discount Toner Cartridges are the same.

Unfortunately, this isn't true. All discount toner cartridges are not the same. I recommend you purchase your toner cartridges from a reputable company that has at least 2-3 years of experience online. These companies don't cut corners. They test their cartridges using a very rigorous quality control process. Be sure to review on our website the ten things you should know before purchasing a discount toner cartridge online.

Isn't it about time you cut your printing cost in half without sacrificing quality or quantity of print? Visit a few reputable online toner merchants today. Make you next order a high quality discount toner cartridge.
